Carboxy Methyl Cellulose is always Sold as the Sodium Salt and to be Scientifically precise should be called Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose however, it has become fairly well established trade practice to call the commercial product Carboy Methyl Cellulose or CMC.


CMC is produced by the reaction of cellulose with sodium hydroxide and monochloro acetic acid. Technological reasons for use.
